Giving It Up*

*No, not that, you naughty readers, you!

I was thinking today, this first day of Lent, what if we were to give something up for 40 days that was truly holding us back? Not something silly like coffee or chocolate, but something truly harmful.

What if we gave up Self Doubt?

What could we accomplish?

Not being Catholic, I nonetheless thought it was an interesting question.

My question to you is, what is holding you back from achieving your dreams, or even trying?

What would you like to give up?

Check out this related post from agent Rachelle Gardener today, and tell me your thoughts!

I love this post! I use the Lent season as a way to recharge every year - finding ways to truly impove my personal POV on a situation. Last year I did 40 days of gratitude...not sure what I will do this year (should probably figure it out...like now).

I like your self-doubt idea...Hmmm..Must stew!

Coffee is silly? *gasps* Where's the soap?!?!

No really, that would be a wonderful thing to give up. Great post.

The world would be a truly different place if we could give up self doubt, wouldn't it?! I think I'd love to give up stress for lent - is that possible? Ha ha. :-)

What a great post. She nailed it!

If only there was a magic pill to erase all my doubts then maybe I'd already have accomplished my goals.

Until then...I'll have to outline, rough draft and revise the idea of giving it up, and will only truly give it up (still not what Rebecca said-you all ARE naughty aren't you?!) when it's polished and something I'm truly proud of.

*Too much editing + deep internal questions = a hot mess of an answer.

Self-doubt...wishing it was possible to give that up for Lent. I would love to give the block that is holding me prisoner at the moment. I think I will try that one for today.

Terrific post, and very thought-provoking. Self doubt is probably the very root that keeps us from attaining our goals.

What a neat idea! I'd love to give up my fear of not finding my next novel idea. I think I will just read for awhile. Recharge the batteries for no other reason than that they are depleted. (As much from the progress of winter as the process writing!)

What an awesome idea! Not to Catholic here either, but I was raised that way. Every lent, it passes through my mind. I couldn't think if anything really significant until you posted this. It is certainly a good goal to work on.

Hmm. Self doubt, yes, especially after a harsh critique or a form letter "no"? Of course, you can't control those.

I'd love to give up the Evil Inner Editor who slows my writing down.
